Management Team members Jim Weisenstein and Tony Armor are the founders and owners of Day One Solar. Both have been living and working in the Santa Cruz community for decades.
Jim Weisenstein, CEO
After receiving his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University, Jim spent 19 years at Intel in product development and general management. After leaving Intel, Jim launched a second career as an Angel Investor, Business Consultant, business school instructor and mentor, helping hundreds of local business owners. Jim discovered his passion for renewable energy after having solar installed on his home and brings his unique experience to the management of Day One Solar, Inc.
Having lived in Santa Cruz County with his wife and three daughters since 1994, Jim has developed many ties to the Santa Cruz community. He has served on the Board of Directors of Lighthouse Bank since it’s opening in 2007, been a member of the Santa Cruz Rotary Club since 2004, been a founding investor in NextSpace since it’s opening in 2008, and served as President of Graystone Consulting LLC, helping local businesses grow from 2001-2012.
Tony Armor, President
Tony has over 32 years of experience in the Construction Industry, with more than 22 of those years as President of Armor Construction and Design – a General Contracting Company serving the Silicon Valley and Monterey Bay Areas. This dedication to his profession has earned him a reputation as a trusted leader in providing the finest in Custom Home building and remodeling services. A Certified Green Builder, Tony is passionate about sustainable building practices and alternative energy systems. His experience in the construction of energy efficient Homes gives Day One Solar the edge over other solar companies in the design and installation of residential and commercial Energy Systems. Tony enjoys hiking, mountain biking and serving his community. He resides in Santa Cruz, California with his wife and two sons.
Ben Valentine, NABCEP Certified Installer
Ben has worked in the solar industry since 2008 as a system designer, project manager, and installer. The majority of his work has been in residential and commercial solar photovoltaic systems, including a 1.8-Megawatt solar farm, but he also has experience designing and installing small-scale wind energy, solar thermal, and battery backup systems. Ben holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and is a NABCEP Certified PV Installation Professional. When not working with renewable energy, Ben has been a field instructor with the outdoor education organization Outward Bound, helping youth and adults discover their potential in the wilderness of North Carolina, Florida and Mexico. Ben’s favorite pastimes include mountain biking, sailing, and cooking.
